Tournament Play
"Tournament Play" is a term used by Little League to describe the District, Provincial, National and International series of games which start in July.  Some leagues refer to their teams that compete in these playdowns as the "A team", "All Star team"or their "tournament team". We refer to our teams as “All-Star”.

Port Arthur National little League traditionally enters teams in Minor, Major, Junior and Senior pladowns, the first step of which is our district competition against our fellow District 3 teams from Westfort Internationals.  Win or lose our minor division ends their tournament play upon completion of our District 3 Tournament. The major, junior and senior divisions go on to the provincials play-downs travelling to the Ontario host city.   While we as a league contribute toward the cost of travel to host cities, parents should be aware that much of the cost of attending provincial and national competition falls to them.

Some divisions (Major, Junior and Senior) will continue on to National level play should they win Provincials.  The path for the Major Division ultimately leads to the Little League World Series in Williamsport in August. Junior and Senior divisions ultimately lead to a World Series competition in the USA.

Port Arthur National Little League will select all-star team coaches by the end of May and coaches will conduct tryouts for player selections. From those tryouts players will be selected and players notified of the coaches’ decisions. Tryouts for all divisional all-star teams will begin in mid June. District 3 play begins in early July depending on the division and provincials are played at the end of July followed by Nationals in August.  To learn more about Tournament Play, please visit Little League International.

Ontario Championships
Exact All-Star Tournament start dates are only known after leagues commit to sending teams.  Formats depend on the number of teams so start dates can vary.  What is shown here are the expected date ranges.  Parents should also note that district, provincials, nationals, and international tournaments are all date sensitive so parents planning family vacations should discuss these issues with the all-star team coaching staff. The Ontario LL site gives a good explanation about how tournament play works.

Championships are hosted across Ontario and require travel and accommodation, and the commitment of time by players, coaches and parents can be considerable.
